“Indigenous Australians of Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait) are on a dangerous course to being Australia’s first permanent climate refugees…

…we are facing complete displacement from our traditional inheritance and identity in the next couple of decades. As the sea rises to take our islands, so we must rise to honour our obligation since time immemorial to protect and defend our people and our communities.”

– Barbara Ibuai, Founder of CCZK at the 2025 Climate Crisis Summit, Canberra

CCZK is an emerging 100% Torres Strait Islander led not-for-profit climate initiative

We are an organisation building from the ground up by the people for the people, amplifying a direct grassroots non-government voice for adaptation and advocacy from our islands.

We join the powerful work of our aboriginal brothers & sisters, and our allies across mainland Australia, our cousins across oceania, and humanity across the globe in calling for an end to fossil fuels, a just and equitable transition for all 1st Peoples, and an accelerated pathway away from climate harm and into a place of global climate safety for all of humanity.

We continue on country the inspiring grassroots climate work led by our Elders Uncle Pabai Pabai and Uncle Paul Kabai in the Australian Federal Court ( Australian Climate Case, Pabai & Kabai v The Commonwealth) and our duty to our sacred land and sea country, our elders, and generations past, present, and yet to come.
